Recently a dear friend’s
husband was experiencing growing fatigue, along with bouts of breathing
difficulties. After being put through various tests it was discovered that he
was losing blood. Thanking the Lord, his situation was surgically corrected.
This is a situation that, if not promptly addressed, could result in death. As
one thinks about this medical condition, one must realize that life is in
the blood, both physically and spiritually.
Physically our blood, the
liquid of life, makes up approximately 7% of our human body weight, contains red
and white blood cells, and platelets. The blood’s primary occupation is to
supply oxygen and nutrients to tissues. When blood stops flowing, oxygen-rich
blood is halted from reaching the brain and other organs. All tissues and organs
begin to break down. Breathing ceases and physical death occurs, forever
separating us from life as we now know it.
Jesus Christ also suffered
death, an excruciating, physical death! (I Peter 3:18) Much blood was lost, and
due to His body’s unbearable position on Calvary’s cross, He ceased to breathe
(suffocated). Physical death. Death, however, could not hold Him. Jesus arose
victorious! (Acts 2:23,24)
When physical death lays
claim to you or me, we can’t defeat the grave because there is a permanent
separation of the soul from the body. But there is another ‘death’ that
multi-millions of people who are physically alive experience daily. This
is spiritual death which is being dead in sin; the separation of the soul
from God. This death has horrifying consequences which will be experienced
throughout all eternity, and once physical death occurs there is NO
reversing it!
BUT we can reverse it now…NOW…this
very day! At Calvary, some 2,000 years ago, God provided the remedy for
defeating spiritual death. Because Jesus was both God and man, His shed
blood, untainted, unblemished, and perfect, provided the only cure because there
is ‘power in His blood" - The Power of Salvation! (Hebrew 9:12, 14).
With this power comes
Redemption. Jesus paid our sin debt (John 3:15-17). His blood was the
ransom paid for our salvation. "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed
with corruptible things as silver and gold…………but with the precious blood
of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot;…" (I Peter
1:18-19/Ephesians 1:7) Once redeemed we become part of God’s family (Galatians
4:4-5).
…comes
Forgiveness. "In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the
forgiveness of sin (Colossians 1:16). Our sin debt is forever banished "As far
as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from
us." (Psalm 103:12)
…comes
Regeneration. Regeneration provides a new "birth’ to every born-again
believer. "…you hath he quickened (made spiritually alive) who were dead in
trespasses and sin;" (Ephesians 2:1,2/Titus 3:5) With this new nature, the new
born-again believer will have an endless love for Jesus and a heart for the
lost.
…comes Bold Access to God.
No longer alienated from God, we can boldly go anytime into God’s presence with
our worries, our prayers, our worship and we ‘ll be heard because we’ve been
‘washed" in the blood! "Having therefore…boldness to enter into the holiest by
the blood of Jesus." (Hebrew 10:19/Ephesians 2:13)
Many fear death, for all the
wrong reasons. The ONLY reason to fear death is one’s eternal destination,
Heaven or Lake of Fire. If ‘washed’ in the blood of Jesus, we are
guaranteed eternal residency with the Lord. If we are depending on any other
method(s) (Acts 4:12) by which to obtain salvation, we will be forever stained
with sin, unwashed by His blood, and eternally tormented. "Who shall be
punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord…" II
Thessalonians 1:9. (Revelation 21:8)
One pint of human blood can
save three peoples’ lives for many years. JESUS' BLOOD CAN SAVE ANYONE
WHO BELIEVES FOR ALL ETERNITY! Combined words from two hymns
wonderfully say it all. "What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of
Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus". "There is
power, power, wonder-working pow’r in the precious blood of the Lamb." The
mighty Power of His blood…Eternal Salvation!
