LOOK AT THE SKY
Looking up at night’s vast curtain of darkness, how
can one not be aware that God is the Mighty Creator; aware of His mighty power?
Still, millions of folks vehemently reject God as the Creator, but Psalm 19:1
declares that “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth
his handywork.”
In His Holy Word, “…God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven
to divide the day from the night;…… and let them be for lights in the firmament
of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two
great lights; the greater light to rule the day (sun) and the lesser light to
rule the night (moon): …… And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to
give light upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:14-17) So, let’s consider these lights.
SUN: It is estimated that the sun has a diameter of 870,000 miles, causing it to
be 110 times the earth’s diameter. With that said, about one million earths
could fit inside the sun. Much can be said about the sun but perhaps the most
amazing fact is this. If Creation resulted from a gigantic explosion, how did
the sun, as well as the moon and planets, emerge as nearly perfect orbs (sphere,
ball, round, circle)? Explosions tear apart, scatter, destroy, and do not create
exactness, nor working perfection. Only God can do that!
Read what Malachi, the Old Testament prophet, said about the sun. “But unto you
that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his
wings…” (Malachi 4:2) The capitalized word Sun speaks of Jesus Christ who will
come to a darkened world in the end-times. Folks, we are living in a world of
spiritual darkness, so believers should be a light in this darkness by spreading
the “light of knowledge of the glory of God” (II Corinthians 4:6). “…he that
followeth me (Jesus) shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of
life (eternal salvation)”. (II Corinthians 4:6b)
STARS: In Genesis 1:16 we see that “…he (God) made
the stars also.” Astronomers estimate there are trillions upon trillions of
stars. But God knows exactly how many there are; He made them! He even named the
stars. Could it be that as God created each star, He simultaneously named each
one? (Psalm 147:4)
In Matthew 2:9 we read about the Star of Bethlehem which led the wise men to
Jesus. Shouldn’t born-again believers shine for the Lord by leading others to
Jesus?
MOON: The moon’s average distance from Earth is 238,855 miles, and its orbit
circumference is 1,499,618.58 miles. When we realize the effect the moon has on
our planet, how could the Big Bang Theory remotely explain how the moon
continually influences the tides, or affects the seasons?
Ever heard of the Harvest Moon or the Frost Moon? Most moon names appear to be
weather/season related: Snow Moon in February, the Flower Moon for May, etc.
Although many moon names were assigned by native Americans, the Bible is quite
clear about the reason for the moon. Psalm 104:19a plainly states that “He (God)
appointed the moon for seasons:….” God’s schedule for every aspect of creation
is fixed! As the moon shines because its surface reflects the sun’s light,
born-again believers should reflect the light of the Son of God (Jesus Christ)
in this perverse world! (Philippians 2:15b)
David said, “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and
the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him…?
(Psalm 8:3,4) Because of our sin, God could have dismissed all humanity, but He
didn’t! Instead, His loving mercy and grace for sinners (all of us) were
revealed at Jesus’ death on Calvary’s cross and the empty tomb!
Look at the sky and marvel at God’s perfection. Look at the sky to view God’s
power. LOOK AT THE SKY AND SEE GOD!
