As I watched television the night
of the presidential election, I was optimistic. Initially, as the States
declared their choices, I was somewhat hopeful that the candidate whose
stand was closer to biblical teachings was going to claim victory. But as
each of us is aware, victory was elusive, and by midnight the candidate
who opposed many of God’s teachings, was once again America’s Commander
and Chief. With complete honesty, I felt sad, even a bit anxious. What was
going to happen to my country; the great country that was created on
biblical tenets?
As I retired to bed that night I
had to lecture myself for my brief ‘pity party’. Fully aware that God is
cognizant of everything that happens, why was I alarmed? Knowing that His
Holy Word not only speaks of, but warns of earth’s worsening conditions,
why did I fret? (Prophecy) Hadn't I placed my faith and trust in the One
who knows the very number of hairs on my head (Luke 12:7), and every
thought buried deep within my heart (Psalm 139:1-3)?
Suddenly clam was all about me as
I reminded myself that God, who loved me so much that He gave His only
begotten Son for my sins… “…while we were yet sinners, Christ died for
us.” Romans 5:8), is, and always has been, at the helm of
civilization, directing its path according to His divine will! With that
reality, sleep came quickly! “God is our
refuse and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
Those who awoke the morning after
the election and became disheartened and alarmed over the election’s
results can take comfort in knowing that God was fully aware of which
candidate would win. As America morphs into a godless nation, God sees! As
the tension in the Middle East intensifies, God is aware! As violence
spreads across the globe, God is watching! As America’s morality is
collapsing, God knows! “...Let not your
hearts be troubled neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:17b)
As earthquakes and hurricanes
increase in number and magnitude, as apostasy infiltrates churches, and
Relativism (belief that little, if any, difference exists between right
and wrong) feeds man’s ego, we see the foreshadowing of the dark,
cataclysmic days of the Tribulation Period (seven continuous years of dire
catastrophes and misery). Christians need not fear. The Great Creator who
spoke into existence the spectacular universe (Genesis 1:1-20), the
magnificent animal kingdom (Genesis 1:20-25), and formed man in His very
own image (Genesis 1:26-27) is in control!
As time ticks down toward the
Second Coming of Christ (Matthew 24:26; 25:31, 32), the Rapture (I
Thessalonians 4:13-18) must first take place, followed by the Tribulation
Period (Book of Revelation). As we believers eagerly await the Rapture, we
will watch as conditions increasingly become more difficult, more wicked.
(II Timothy 3:1-7), but we can find comfort in knowing that God is in
complete control!
So does it matter who claimed the
presidency? Absolutely not! God is in control! Should we fret over the
economy, taxes, insurance? No! Does it matter if we face increasingly
difficult and ungodly times? No! Should we worry about what Christians may
face? No! God is in control! Should we be sleepless about finances,
job/career, health, etc. No, for we have only to turn to the One who can
ease our hearts, calm our nerves and steady our walk. “Humble
yourselves…under the mighty hand of God…casting all your care (anxiety)
upon Him, for he careth for you.” (I Peter 5:6,7)
If, however, we are without Jesus
Christ, we should be awash with worry! Oh, not about the state of
our nation, but the state of our soul! Just as we had an individual choice
as to whom to vote for on Election Day, we have a choice as to our
eternity…Heaven or Hell! Actually, if we don’t call upon Jesus, we’ve
already made our choice, a choice with damning and everlasting results.
“And these (unbelievers) shall go away into everlasting punishment;
but the righteous (believers) into
life eternal.” (Matthew 25:46)
Place your trust in the One who
has absolute control…Jesus Christ. “For
whosoever shall call upon the name of the lord shall be saved.” (Romans
10:13)
